Workshop with Cyril Teste & Patrick Laffont

Calendar

Saturday 07/11/2009 → Friday 13/11/2009 from 00:13 to 00:13

The workshop allows the students to explore diverse methods of approaching the work with a camera, first of all getting familiar with it. It is about creating a working method with the actors before they can transform little by little this tool in an instrument. Video today is far from being just a supplementary element of the setting; it participates in our daily environment and operates a great influence over the perception of reality. Thus, image has to be considered a space in itself. The use of video is generational: images are an intrinsic part of the world in which we were born and raised. Theater has to deal with the human being and his environment and our environment today cannot be separated from images. Our principle is to dissolve images in the performance, to wipe them in favor of the scene. The time of the theater is the real time. The time of the image is a totally different one. We are trying to bring the time of the video image in the time of the theater.

About the artists

Cyril Teste. After studying Fine Arts, Cyril Teste follows classes of dramatic arts, first in Ecole Régionale d’Acteur de Cannes, then in the National Superior Conservatoire of Dramatic Arts in Paris. This double specialization determines him to put face to face the universe of fine arts and that of the stage. Starting to direct, he will confront the reality of the stage with the virtual reality of the video image, most of the time obtained and transmitted in real time. Thus he staged Alice underground after Lewis Caroll, Anatomie Ajax, after Sophocle, Shot, Direct, Paradiscount and (f)lux by Patrick Bouvet and Electronic City by Falk Richter. Simultaneously he does workshops and installations based on the relation between actor and video image. As an actor, he worked with Olivier Py, Lucie Tiberghien, Robert Cantarella, Claude Stratz, Bernard Sobel, Béatrice Houplain, Georges Aperghis.
