The independent scene of performing arts in Romania is, more or less, 20 years old – with all the good and the bad, it emerged right after the fall of the communism. Archiving it is a much more recent endeavor – and it has much to do with the development of this sector.

On the walls of L’Atelier Cafe in Cluj, the passers-by will see posters of performances, theatre and dance festivals dating up to almost 10 years ago, which give testimony not only about the productions and producers active during this time, but also – and, maybe, more important – about means of production, the precarity of the field, different artistic stakes and evolutions. The hopes, dreams and accomplishments of a promising, courageous art.
