Sugar Free Family is a musical about the Romanian family. Family is perceived as an intersectional concert in which the voices of parents, children, grand-parents, church, robots, the voices of normative rules and oppressive clichés, the voices of those who do not fit in the pre-established social formats and inherited patterns, model the conception regarding the family seen as the foundation of our society. Family is a fluid construction in which the sense of belonging is continuously reimagined together with a set of relations that change due to unpredicted floating contexts.

About the artists

Radu Apostol is one of the most well-known theatre directors involved in social theatre. He has worked in important national theatres, where he staged many controversial, prize-winning and talked-about shows. He is one of the founders of the dramAcum project. Home by Ludmila Razumovskaia, at Ion Creangă Theatre, Straight as a line by Luis Alfaro, at Maria Filotti Theatre in Brăila or Woyzeck by Georg Büchner, also at Maria Filotti Theatre are among his best works. He coordinated “ACASĂ”, a project designed for the homeless children, Open Home Association, Step by Step Foundation and Ion Creangă Theatre. He believes that it is extremely productive for professionals and non-professionals to meet on stage, from an artistic point of view. He also stays away from the “museum-like” type of theatre.
