It was always assumed that it’s impossible to film dance and, however, when Nadar, Edison and Marey took their camera, their first concern was to film dance, remarked Henri Langlois, the founder of the French Cinematheque.
Temps d’Images Festival offers a unique encounter between dance and film, in order to show how danced gestures are invented and elaborated and to reveal the birth of motion: a motion that, by itself, will produce images, as you will see in these video-dance sessions.
Through documentary portraits, the film sessions will determine you to discover, in another manner, the bodies that dance, as well as important personalities of modern and contemporary dance world, that revolutionized the art of movement and which continues to ”feed” the contemporary creations. Numerous testimonials, archive images, studio rehearsals images and footage bring to light choreographers like Anna Halprin, Lucinda Childs, Merce Cunningham and Anne Theresa de Keersmaeker, who bring their own reflections on art and the world to the other side of the screen.
Films selection by Isabelle Danto, dance critic. With the support of ARTE TV Channel, France.
